In 1967, while attending a weather conference in Europe, I saw my first APT Weather Satelite Station. Over the next three years I put together one for myself. The program had been designed for home and college construction. Amaziangly, In the invening years, the series of satellites has continued, right up and into the early 21st Century. There are still four active analog APT satellites in orbit: NOAA 15, 17, 18 and 19. II receive daily pictures from them to this site . See link in side bar of home page.
The downloadable booklet below, published in 1970, gives the details of my very first station, which successfully received pictures from some of the earliest APT weather satellites of the series.
The NOAA/Tiros series is planned to remain for a few years. NOAA 19 was launched in April 2009, the last of the seriews. Very interesting picures may still be received by home-contstructors. Several very functional receivers and software packages are currently available on the Web.
